    All contestents will be required to perform their composition for the judges on Sunday at 12:00PM. Please bring a copy of the composition for the judges.

    Winners will be announced during the intermission of the Sunday Recital at 2:00 PM and will have the opportunity to perform at that time.

    Overview

    “Chopin Lives!” Piano Workshop organized by Chopin Society of Houston, will take place Saturday, October 28 and Sunday, October 29, 2006 at the University of St. Thomas. It is open to pre-college piano students. An application form is available through the link at right.

    Performance classes and lessons will be conducted by the following distinguished musicians:

  • Mr. Jose Feghali, Gold Medalist of the Van Cliburn Piano Competition, faculty member of Texas Christian University in Fort Worth and international concert painist
  • Mr. Adam Golka, Gold Medalist at the Second China Shanghai International Piano Competition and international concert pianist
  • Dr. Clive Swansbourne, winner of the "Concerts Atlantique" International Music Competition and international concert pianist

    Several recitals will also be organized to give students an opportunity to perform.

    Any original composition of Fryderyk Chopin may be submitted. If several shorter pieces are selected, they should not exceed the time limit of 7 minutes. All works must be performed by memory. No changes or substitutions will be accepted. Please note: Only original versions will be accepted – No transcriptions – No arrangements!

    Applicants and registration fees must be received by Friday, September 29, 2006. Make copies of the form for each participating student. Information on application form must by typed or printed in block letters. A non-refundable fee of $60 per performance class entry, $30 per recital performance entry, $45 per private lesson entry, $70 per recital plus private lesson entry and $100 per performance class plus private lesson entry must accompany each application.     Teachers will be notified times of their students immediatedly after closing the list of applicants. This list will be published on this website.

    Students participating in performance classes and private lessons are required to bring their music. All performers participating in performance classes and recitals are expected to wear appropriate attire to ensure a proper atmosphere. Chopin Society of Houston reserves the right to record all performances during the event for use at its own discretion. By signing the application form the parent/ guardian renounces all rights and fees.

    Compose and Perform Your very Own "Chopin Waltz"

    If you participate in any of the above evants you can take advantage of a unique opportunity: to compose and perform your own "Chopin Waltz". The lerft hand part and the first two measures of the melody are available on this page.

    Participants may select either of the two waltzes.

    Awards will be given to the most chopinesque creations.
